🐝 Asian hornet: it’s time to act

Spring is here. Nature is waking up. Flowers are appearing. Bees are resuming their activity… But they are not alone.

👉 The queens of the Asian hornet are also coming out of hibernation.

And it is now that everything is at stake.

⚠️ Why acting in spring is essential

At this time of year, each Asian hornet queen (Vespa velutina) begins to build her nest.

She is alone, vulnerable, and in the founding phase.

👉 Capturing a queen today means preventing the creation of thousands of hornets in a few months.

Because a single colony can represent:

  • several thousand individuals
  • a huge pressure on bees
  • a direct impact on biodiversity

A simple action now… can prevent a much bigger problem later.

🐝 A real danger for bees and biodiversity

The Asian hornet is a formidable predator. It mainly hunts:

  • 🐝 bees
  • 🦋 other pollinating insects
  • 🪰 many beneficial insects

👉 Result:

  • weakening of hives
  • decrease in pollination
  • imbalance of ecosystems

And this concerns all of us.

📍 In Belgium: a collective mobilization

Good news: you are not alone in taking action.

A platform has been set up to coordinate actions across the territory:

On this tool, you can:

  • 📍 Locate traps around you
  • 🚨 Report an Asian hornet nest
  • 🤝 Participate in a collective action

👉 The more of us there are, the greater the impact.

🌱 Trapping yes... but intelligently

Attention: trapping must be selective and responsible.

The goal is not to capture all insects... but only the Asian hornets.

A bad trap can:

❌ capture bees

❌ harm other beneficial species

❌ further imbalance the ecosystem

👉 It is therefore essential to use appropriate equipment.

🛠️ Selective traps suitable for the garden

On The Robin Lodge, we offer solutions designed to act effectively while respecting biodiversity:

✔️ Traps specifically designed for the Asian hornet

✔️ Calibrated entrances to limit non-target captures

✔️ Simple installation in the garden or near risk areas

👉 The goal: to protect without harming.

🏡 Where and how to install a trap?

Some good practices:

  • 📍 Install the trap near flowering areas or beehives
  • 🌿 Place it at eye level, in a quiet spot
  • ☀️ Prefer a partially sunny exposure
  • 🔁 Check the trap regularly

👉 And above all: take action starting now (March – May)

❤️ A small gesture, a big impact

Trapping a queen today is not trivial. It is:

  • protecting thousands of bees
  • preserving pollination
  • supporting local biodiversity
  • taking concrete action for nature

And that really matters.

🌍 Acting together for nature

At The Robin Lodge, we believe in a simple approach:

👉 observe, understand… and act.

The Asian hornet is a challenge. But together, we can limit its impact.

💚 Thank you for being one of those who protect nature every day.
