A thermal device allows for observing temperature differences, but it does not replace visual identification when it is necessary. At long distances or in certain weather conditions, several species or objects may present a similar thermal signature.

It is therefore necessary to distinguish detection, observation and identification.

However, a high frequency alone does not improve the overall quality of the image. It must be considered along with the sensor, optics, and video processing.

There is no universally better focal length.

A shorter focal length generally offers a wider field of view, while a longer focal length favors the observation of distant subjects but reduces the covered field.

The right choice therefore mainly depends on your terrain, the distances at which you observe, and your type of hunting.

The detection range corresponds to the theoretical ability to distinguish a thermal source from a given environment.

It does not mean that you will be able to identify an animal at that same distance.

This is an important distinction when comparing several thermals: detecting a hot spot and accurately identifying an animal are two different things.

Yes, its use can be handled by a beginner. However, its high-end positioning and advanced features are more interesting for a user who regularly practices thermal observation.
